Pain Management for Several Common Conditions

Our joint injections can help improve the discomfort and restriction associated with several common joint problems.

  • ArthritisArthritis refers to over 100 conditions that cause joint tissue inflammation, leading to pain and restricted mobility. Our injections can help with several common types of arthritis:
    • Osteoarthritis occurs when joint cartilage degenerates.
    • Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition that causes the body’s immune system to attack joint tissue.
    • Gout develops when urate crystals accumulate in a joint–frequently the big toe.
    • Ankylosing spondylitis affects the spine and can, in severe cases, cause the spinal vertebrae to fuse together.
    • Psoriatic arthritis is linked to the skin condition psoriasis.
  • Lupus: This autoimmune condition causes widespread inflammation throughout the body, including the joints.
  • Bursitis: This condition refers to an inflammation of the bursae, small sacs nestled between the bone surrounding tissue. Bursitis can occur in your elbow, hip, knee, and other joints.
  • Tendonitis: This condition refers to an inflammation of the tendons, the tissue that connects your muscle to the bone. Common sites of tendonitis include your elbow, Achilles tendon, knee, and shoulder.
  • Synovitis: This condition refers to an inflammation of the synovial membrane, a layer of soft tissue that protects certain joints, such as the knees, ankles, or hips.

What To Expect From Joint Injections at Hands of Hope

Our physicians strive to make the injection process as comfortable as possible for you! We’ll begin by applying a numbing agent to the injection site. Next, we’ll use an X-ray machine to guide the injection directly into the joint, helping to ensure accuracy and comfort.

We offer two types of injections:

  • Steroid injections contain corticosteroid, a medicine that reduces inflammation and relieves pain. These injections can typically relieve pain for several weeks to a few months. While these are a safe approach to pain management, they have some drawbacks, including increasing your blood sugar.
  • Non-steroid injections provide an alternative. They might contain hyaluronic gel, saline solution, or other non-steroid materials that provide additional lubrication to your joint, helping to relieve pain. Depending on various factors, they can last up to six months at a time.

We understand everyone has different medical histories, conditions, and pain management goals. Our team will work closely with you to find the right joint injections to help you safely and effectively reduce pain, restore mobility, and improve your quality of life.Call Hands of Hope today to learn more about your pain management options!
