Epidural Steroid Injections To Manage Back Pain

When you’re struggling with particularly intense back pain, even basic activities can feel impossible. At Hands of Hope, we offer epidural steroid injections to help you manage your discomfort so you can find lasting back pain relief. During an epidural injection, our physicians inject corticosteroid–a powerful anti-inflammatory medicine–into the epidural space, a small sac of fluid that surrounds your spinal cord. The injection then helps to dampen your pain. Note that these injections are different from what’s commonly called an epidural, which is a type of anesthesia given during childbirth. Do you think you might benefit from an epidural injection? Schedule an appointment at our Lincoln Place, Bedford, prospect, and Flatbush clinics for an initial consultation.

What To Expect During an Epidural Injection

Epidural injections are a fairly straightforward procedure. During the appointment, you’ll typically lie down on your stomach, so we have access to your spine. We’ll then numb the injection site and, if needed, provide medication to help you relax.

We always use an X-ray to guide the injection to the correct spot on your back. After we’ve performed the injection, we’ll monitor you for 15-20 minutes to ensure a good recovery.

You’ll notice a gradual improvement in your back pain over the next few days, although how long it will last can vary. Our physicians will work with you to develop a comprehensive treatment plan with an eye toward long-term management if not complete resolution.

An epidural injection can bring you the relief you need. Call Hands of Hope today to schedule an appointment!
